The 2009 Annual Meeting of the Irish Cytometry Society, now in its 5th year. Again, it will serve as a joint meeting for flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, high content screening and related technologies. The meeting will be an exciting event and an excellent opportunity to interact and share information across the various fields within cytometry and imaging.

This will be a two day event held in the new Science Gallery in Trinity College Dublin, in the very heart of the city centre. The focus for Day 1 will be Cancer and Stem Cells, with Day 2 being of more general interest across the span of these technologies, within clinical and life sciences.

As in previous years they are lining up exceptional international and Irish-based keynote speakers, in addition to oral and poster presentations from clinical and life science researchers.

HEA PRTLI - 10 YEAR CELEBRATION

A celebration of 10 years of HEA PRTLI funding (PRTLI10) is taking place in Science Gallery from 27 November to 2nd December, and CBNI will be there showcasing our activities and research on BioNano-Interactions. Full details of the PRTLI10 event can be found at www.hea.ie/en/node/1204.

INSPIRE

INSPIRE, the Integrated Nanoscience Platform for Ireland, funded by the Higher Education Authority through the PRLTI4 Scheme officially launched by the Minister for Education & Science, Mr. Batt O'Keefe, TD in the Science Gallery, Trinity College Dublin on Thursday, 30 October 2008 at 9.00am.

INSPIRE is composed of three research platforms:

NanoElectronics, NanoPhotomics, and NanoBiology. UCD are strand leaders for the NanoBiology strand.

Launch International Alliance for NanoEHS Harmonization

9 September 2008

Nanotechnology provides the opportunity for enabling new products that could meet a wide range of societal needs, but concerns over potential environmental, health and safety of these materials may limit their adoption.

At the Nanotox 2008 Conference in Zurich on the 9th of September, the formation of the International Alliance for NanoEHS Harmonization (IANH) was announced to conference participants and members of the press. This group of internationally recognized experts has agreed to develop specific tools and testing protocols, and perform a set of round robin experiments to lay the foundation for reproducible testing of nanomaterial biological interactions and toxicology and establish protocols that would be shared with other researchers and explore potential correlations between cell based test and effects in organisms.
