21st October 2009
The 2009 Annual Meeting of the Irish Cytometry Society, now in its 5th year. Again, it will serve as a joint meeting for flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, high content screening and related technologies. The meeting will be an exciting event and an excellent opportunity to interact and share information across the various fields within cytometry and imaging.
This will be a two day event held in the new Science Gallery in Trinity College Dublin, in the very heart of the city centre. The focus for Day 1 will be Cancer and Stem Cells, with Day 2 being of more general interest across the span of these technologies, within clinical and life sciences.
As in previous years they are lining up exceptional international and Irish-based keynote speakers, in addition to oral and poster presentations from clinical and life science researchers.

RTE's science series "The Investigators" will focus on nanotechnology on Thursday 11th December, and features CBNI's Prof. Kenneth Dawson talking about nanobiology and nanomedicine. The show airs at 11.05 pm on Thursday 11th December on RTE1
HEA PRTLI - 10 YEAR CELEBRATION
A celebration of 10 years of HEA PRTLI funding (PRTLI10) is taking place in Science Gallery from 27 November to 2nd December, and CBNI will be there showcasing our activities and research on BioNano-Interactions. Full details of the PRTLI10 event can be found at www.hea.ie/en/node/1204.
INSPIRE
INSPIRE, the Integrated Nanoscience Platform for Ireland, funded by the Higher Education Authority through the PRLTI4 Scheme officially launched by the Minister for Education & Science, Mr. Batt O'Keefe, TD in the Science Gallery, Trinity College Dublin on Thursday, 30 October 2008 at 9.00am.
INSPIRE is composed of three research platforms:
NanoElectronics, NanoPhotomics, and NanoBiology. UCD are strand leaders for the NanoBiology strand.
PNAS article
Publication from CBNI researchers shows that nanoparticle size and surface charge influence the protein corona with consequences for nanoparticle uptake and trafficking.
NSF and EPA Establish Two Centers for Environmental Implications of Nanotechnology
CBNI reseachers are partner in NSF-funded Center for the Environmental Implications of Nanotechnology (CEIN) at UCLA
Launch International Alliance for NanoEHS Harmonization
9 September 2008
Nanotechnology provides the opportunity for enabling new products that could meet a wide range of societal needs, but concerns over potential environmental, health and safety of these materials may limit their adoption.
At the Nanotox 2008 Conference in Zurich on the 9th of September, the formation of the International Alliance for NanoEHS Harmonization (IANH) was announced to conference participants and members of the press. This group of internationally recognized experts has agreed to develop specific tools and testing protocols, and perform a set of round robin experiments to lay the foundation for reproducible testing of nanomaterial biological interactions and toxicology and establish protocols that would be shared with other researchers and explore potential correlations between cell based test and effects in organisms.
PNAS Cozzarelli Prize
Dr. Iseult Lynch, Prof. Kenneth Dawson & Dr. Tommy Cedervall
with Prof. Harry Gray

CBNI scientists Dr. Iseult Lynch (centre right), Prof. Kenneth Dawson (centre left), and Dr. Tommy Cedervall (left) receiving the 2007 Class I Cozzarelli prize from the Proceedings of the US National Academy of Sciences, in Washington DC on April 27th 2008. The paper was nominated by Prof. Harry Gray (right) who presented the award on behalf of the Academy.
